Jerry R. Brown Obituary

Jerry R. Brown , 79, was born on October 11, 1945 to the late William and Clare Hamilton Brown.  He departed this life on October 19, 2024 at the Iva Post Acute Nursing Home in Iva, SC.  He was born in Greenville, SC, however; he grew up in Pendleton, SC.  His family later moved to Anderson where he resided until his death.  In his early years, he attended public schools in Pendleton until he got a job to support his family.  He was employed by Owens Corning Fiberglass in Starr, JP Stevens in Clemson, and Stauffer Chemicals in Anderson.  In his younger days, he enjoyed golf, bowling, going on trips with family and friends, taking pictures, and he was known as a “pool shark.”

He held firm beliefs in the King James Version of the Bible and received the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour.  He raised his two eldest sons in the home in the admonition (warning) of the Lord.  He would always say how he wanted all of his family to be saved.  He attended the Church of Christ in Anderson, SC.

He was affectionately called “PaPa” by his grandchildren, who remember him for his delicious home-cooked meals, overnight stays, and trying to guide them in the word of God.  He was a strong disciplinarian, and he didn’t mind giving whoever a good whipping when it was needed. He would say what he meant, and meant what he said.  If he would reach for his strap, it was too late!

He spent the last month of his life mostly in AnMed Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones as we watched the Lord Jesus bring him through many trials regarding his health.  Towards the end of his life, he was so thankful.  It was a joy to go in and spend time with him; he would recognize who you were, receive the love and care that you shared, and in return, say “thank-you”.  He was loved and will definitely be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents:  Williams and Clara Hamilton Brown; his loving wife of 49 years, Sue Ann Speed Brown; two brothers, Billy Brown and Joe Brown; and one sister, Diane Brown.

He leaves to cherish his memories four sons: Terry (Pamela) Brown of Anderson, Reggimon (Allyson) Brown of Simpsonville, Jeremy Hudson of Greenville, and Avian Cunningham of Anderson; four grandchildren: Tyrie Brown of Easley, Hannah Brown of Queen Creek, AZ, Caleb Brown of Anderson, and Ezra Hudson of Seneca; three great-grandchildren: Harmony and Tymir Brown of Anderson, and Sincere Hooks-Lily, Jr. of Queen Creek, AZ; one sister, Ms. Queenie Walker of Anderson; two brother, Kent (Lucille) Brown of Jersey City, NJ, Frank Brown of Sacramento CA; two brothers-in-law, James Haygood of Greenville, and Larry Robinson of Seneca; one sister-in-law, Ms. Angie Brown, a host of nephews and nieces, and many cousins.  He leaves a special friend and companion, Ms. Carrine Galloway of Pendleton, SC.
