Obituary
With profound sadness we announce the passing of Richard A. Martin on October 22, 2021. He left us while sleeping peacefully at his residence. He was the son of the late George Johnson and Lucinda Martin.
Richard was reared in the home of Walker and Evelyn Cochran an uncle and aunt. He joined St. Paul First Baptist Church at an early age where he was an active participant in the youth department and served as a youth usher.
Richard was a 1969 graduate of Westside High School. After graduation he moved to Bridgeport, Conn. In 1972 he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Distinguish Service Medal. Upon his return he was a United States Postal mail carrier.
In 1989 Richard moved back to Anderson. He was employed with the Anderson Hospital until he retired in 2020. But after figuring out that he was not quite ready to call it quits with work, he went back to work at the Patrick B Harris Hospital until his health declined.
Richard was predeceased by both parents, his guardians Walker and Evelyn Cochran, and his sister Minnie E. Martin. Survivors include his wife Lorene Martin (Bridgeport, Conn) 4 children; two biological sons: Richard Jr. (Tiffany) (Dallas Texas), Derrick (Bridgeport Conn.) Sean Toliver (Bridgeport, Conn) and LaShanna Crowell-Mims (Harold) Bridgeport, Conn). 4 grandchildren, a sister Barbara R. Martin (Deerfield Beach, Florida) a niece Alexis Martin (Anderson, SC); two great nephews, and a host of cousins and friends, Including a special friend Patricia Rollins.
