Titus Rucker - December 5, 1933 - August 2, 2024
Titus Rucker, loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on August 2, 2024, at the age of 90, as a result of chronic heart failure at Self Regional Hospital in Greenwood, South Carolina. He was devoted to his family, determined, ambitious, and caring. Born on December 5,1933 to Nathaniel and Bessie (Winbush) Rucker, he was the eleventh child of seventeen.
Nicknamed "Ted" and "Tito," Titus was fond of fishing, music, watching and playing sports, and gambling - especially playing blackjack. After graduating high school in Belton, South Carolina, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Titus worked as a surgical orderly at Mt. Sinai Hospital before he enrolled in the Marines to serve in the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, a service award given to United States Armed Forces members who served during national emergency or armed conflict.
After his military service, Titus attended Central State College (now Central State University) where he graduated with a BS in Chemistry with hopes of becoming a medical doctor. He worked at Master Builders (now Master Builders Solutions) where he honed his interest in construction materials. With an entrepreneurial spirit, he moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico where he started his corporation - Chemplex de Puerto Rico.
After many years he moved back to Augusta, Georgia, to be near his siblings, especially his older sister, Mattie Hall.
His heart was always in Belton, South Carolina, where he was born and raised. He built a house on the family land. This home is a small part of his legacy.
Titus was preceded in death by his parents: Nathaniel Rucker and Bessie Mae Rucker (Winbush) Neely; His first wife, Denotra Rucker; Eleven siblings: Jeanette (Rucker) Smith Massey, Lula Keturah (Rucker) Gantt, Nathaniel Rucker, Jr., Alemina (Rucker) Chapman,
Wilhelmenia (Rucker) Edwards, Mattie Lene (Rucker) Hall, Tony Sylvester Rucker, Benjamin, Franklin Rucker, Alice Mae (Rucker) Henderson, Vermelle M. Rucker, Thelma Othella (Rucker) Knight Jones.
He is survived by His seven daughters and three sons-in-law: Sharon Parker, Montrie Rucker Adams (Todd Q. Adams), Terri Rucker (Jim Wright), Tonia Rucker, Tina Mari Rucker (M. Keith Harrison), Thea Rucker, and Stepdaughter Michelle Fernandez; 14 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; Two brothers: Isaiah Rucker (Alice) - US Army Veteran - Cleveland Heights, OH, and Frank Jonah Rucker (Linda, deceased) - US Army Veteran - Warrensville Heights, OH; and three sisters: Catherine Robinson (Robert, deceased) - Fayetteville, NC, Barbara J. Brown (William) - Bedford Heights, OH, and Francis Evelyn Rucker - South Euclid, OH and Former spouses: Sharleen Rucker and Luz Rucker.
